My name is Melanie Thompson, and I am an account executive / publication manager for KGBTexas Public Relations / Advertising in San Antonio. After fiddling around with this blog for a couple of months, I decided to take the advice myself and so many others have offered — find your niche.
So, as publication manager at KGBTexas, I decided that one of the areas I know best and that needs coverage in the PR / social media circle is publication management. During my tenure at KGBTexas, I have played a role in at least seven publications. If you count the newsletters and e-blasts I simply edit, then that number grows … quickly. From eight pages to 48, I’ve seen it all. Been to the editorial board meetings. Managed a production schedule. Slashed my writers’ copy. Reviewed the blueline. And smiled as the final printed version hit my desk.
I hope that as a result of this blog more people / companies will find the value in using a publication to spread their message, communicate with their target audience and separate themselves from their competitors.
