The following excerpt is from the Social Media Explorer and is part of his 10 mistakes in promoting your blog post.
6. Not valuing the face-to-face
Nothing makes me read someone else’s blog more than having a face-to-face interaction with them. Having a true-life, personal connection gives me the notion that a I know them, even if not well. I’m much more apt to remember or want to read their blog. Whether it’s a Tweet-up, a lunch or a conference, networking for your blog isn’t limited to the online type.
This is so completely true and is really a carry over from “traditional” PR tactics. Having lunch with a reporter can sometimes be the best strategy for a PR professional. All reporters love a good meal, and this is a great way to make a personal connection.
For the social media world this can be a little harder. I’m sure 90 percent of the people I follow on blogs or on Twitter are located in the Northeast. However, I think it is time to test that theory. I think it’s time for a San Antonio Tweetup. I’m going to start working on a plan with my colleagues and will post more if we can make something happen.
Details to come.
